On November 20th 2017, I was cycling home from work on my usual commute when a 4x4 pulled out of a junction and hit me, throwing me over the bonnet onto the other side of the road.

Injuries included a nasty gash to my top lip requiring 8 stitches (6 external 2 internal), the impact also resulted in substantial soft tissue damage to my knee and hip. My bike and helmet were also badly damaged.

I usually commute all year round and as a result of the accident I needed to seek legal representation to claim compensation for my badly damaged bike. I found Cycle Law Scotland online and after reading through the testimonials I decided to give them a phone.

After a short chat with Fiona Richardson, I was contacted by Jodi Gordon who asked me few questions about the accident and then arranged for me to upload the video footage of the collision and photographs of my injuries to a secure location. An appointment was arranged, and I met with Brenda and Thomas in Aberdeen. We discussed what had happened the night of the accident and the impact it had had on me and my family since then. Brenda then arranged for my bike to get independently accessed by a local bike shop to determine the extent of the damage.

At this stage I would like to say a huge thanks to Brenda and Thomas for all their help. I knew after my first meeting with Brenda that I had made the right choice going with CLS to represent me. After the initial pre-medical offer had been declined due to ongoing conditions, they swiftly arranged for medical assessments and secured an interim payment for a new bike, helmet and ongoing travel expenses. Another offer from the insurance company was received and thanks to Brenda’s experience and knowledge in cycle law the offer was rejected.

CLS opened a new Aberdeen office and it was at this point I met Roz Boynton. A face to face meeting was arranged and we discussed the accident and the best way to proceed.

I have to say that Roz was brilliant from our first meeting right through until a settlement was agreed. My advice to anyone who ends up in the same situation as me is to listen to Roz and trust her advice.

After rejecting another low offer, Roz advised that we should start court proceedings and after a few more weeks of negotiating she managed to secure the outcome we were looking for and the case was settled out of court.

Once again, huge thanks to Roz and all of the CLS team for all their help, advice and hard work over the past year.
